Final grade calculator
Find out what you need to score on your final exam to get the grade you want.
How it works
Your final grade is a mix of your grade so far and your final exam score. If the final is worth 25%, your current grade counts for the other 75%. So the score you need is your target, minus 75% of your current grade, divided by 0.25.
Questions
How do I calculate what I need on my final?
Use this formula: needed = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight, with the weight as a decimal. With a current grade of 88%, a final worth 25% and a target of 90%: (90 − 88 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = 96%.
What if I need more than 100%?
Then your target can't be reached on the final alone, unless your class offers extra credit. The table shows the highest grade still within reach.
How do I find my final exam weight?
Check your syllabus or ask your teacher. It is usually given as a percentage of the overall grade, such as "Final exam: 25%".
What grade do I need on the final to pass?
Set your target to the passing grade, often 60% or 70%. The table also shows what you need for a D, C, B and A.
Can I see my grade if I get a certain score?
Yes. Enter a score in the "What if I score" box to see your overall grade after the final.
Does this work for weighted grades?
Yes. Enter your current weighted grade (what your gradebook shows before the final) and the final's weight.
